A 44-year-old woman was murdered in Chhawla, south-west Delhi, allegedly by her live-in partner, who choked her to death and shoved her body inside his four-wheeler. Due to his inebriated condition, he fell asleep and got caught, a police officer said on Thursday.

The accused was identified as Virendra, 35. The matter came to light on Wednesday when a person informed the police that a woman’s body was lying inside his neighbour Mr. Virendra’s car.

The officer said a police team reached the spot, retrived the body and found Mr. Virendra sleeping inside his house.

During the interrogation, Mr. Virendra told the police that he was married and has children, but has been living with the woman for the last two years. “The woman owned a house in Palam, which they sold, and with that money, Virendra purchased a three-storey house in Chhawla under his own name in August,” the officer said, adding that the accused also kept with him additional ₹21 lakh which they received from Palam house sale.

“On Tuesday night, the duo fought over ₹21 lakh and Virendra, who was drunk, pushed the woman to the bed and choked her to death,” said the officer.

The officer said the accused called two of his friends, a man and a woman, who allegedly helped him in trasporting the body to the car.

“Both of them left and Virendra attempted to drive the car, but could’t and returned home and fell asleep,” the officer added.

Hunt is under way to nab Mr. Virendra accomplainces, the officer added.
