Member of Parliament and MDMK principal secretary Durai Vaiko has appealed to the district administration to build a dining hall with drinking water facility at Kattabomman memorial in Kayathar as it attracts a few hundred visitors everyday.

In a petition submitted to District Collector K. Elambahavath on Sunday, Mr. Durai Vaiko said a few hundred students and the public from various parts of Tamil Nadu are visiting the Kattabomman Memorial at Kayathar everyday as the historic monument is located advantageously on the Kanniyakumari – Kashmir four-lane national highway. Since the number of visitors coming to this memorial is swelling everyday, tourist-friendly amenities should be created in this place.

Hence, the district administration should create a permanent dining hall at the memorial for the benefit of the visitors besides ensuring drinking water there. A bus-stop should also be created there.

Mr. Durai Vaiko also appealed to the Collector to give regularised patta to the land on which the ex-servicemen had built their welfare centre at Kovilpatti.

He said the ex-servicemen had built their welfare centre on a small piece of land 50 years ago and were paying the property tax to Kovilpatti municipality. They were celebrating the Independence Day and Republic Day at this centre since 1987.

Hence, the Collector should give regularised patta for this land, Mr. Durai Vaiko said.
