Tiruchi MP Durai Vaiko has urged State Transport Minister S. S. Sivasankar to create a separate division of Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) with Tiruchi as headquarters.

In a representation submitted to the Minister on Monday, Mr. Durai Vaiko pointed out that Tiruchi came under TNSTC’s Kumbakonam division now. Given its status as an important city, commercial and educational hub in the State with a population of about 15 lakh, the city’s transport requirements was growing with each passing day.

However, in the absence of a separate TNSTC division, introduction of new routes and service expansion were being delayed. Hence, it was essential that a new division was created with Tiruchi as headquarters so as to improve the services and efficiency of the corporation, Mr. Durai Vaiko said.

In another representation, he appealed to the Minister, who also holds the Electricity portfolio, to expeditiously issue posting orders for remaining 5,493 candidates who were selected for the post of gangmen after clearing the written and physical tests, in Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation.
