The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB), the agency responsible for implementing the Atal Canteen project, has floated tenders to set up 54 canteens across the city over the past 10 days. The board plans to set up the canteens on December 25, commemorating the 101st birthday of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, according to sources.
During the Budget Session earlier this year, the Delhi government set aside ₹100 crore for the project – one of the BJP’s poll promises ahead of the February 5 Assembly election – aimed at setting up 100 canteens near slum clusters and providing meals at a subsidised cost of ₹5.
DUSIB has floated tenders across various constituencies, including Chhatarpur, Sangam Vihar, Greater Kailash, Hari Nagar, Matiala, Janakpuri, Vikas Puri, Dwarka, Sonia Vihar, Model Town, Timarpur, Udyog Bhawan, Mangolpuri, Wazirpur, and Mehrauli.
The board has been tasked with identifying suitable sites in JJ clusters, designing disposal centres wherever required, and completing the operational framework of the scheme, according to a DUSIB notification.
