The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Thanjavur, has filed a case against former Thanjavur Corporation Commissioner K. Saravanakumar, two other senior officials and a ‘contractor’ on charges of causing loss to the exchequer to the tune of ₹9.56 crore.

According to DVAC sources, Mr. Saravanakumar, former Executive Engineer Jagadeesan and former Assistant Engineer Karthikeyan cancelled a bio-mining contract allotted to a firm at Kovilvenni in Tiruvarur district in 2022.

Well before cancelling the work order, the trio engaged a non-listed contractor, Manisekaran of Sivagangai, and created records that 1,42,384 cubic metre of garbage had been cleared using the bio-mining technique by Manisekaran, though he had actually cleared 14,363 cubic metre of garbage only. A sum of ₹.9,56,82,048 was also released to Manisekaran based on the fabricated documents.

A case under sections 13(2), 13(1)(a) and 12 of Prevention of Corruption Act, and sections 120(b), 409, 465, 468, 471 and 109 of Indian Penal Code, was filed against Saravanakumar, Jagadeesan, Karthikeyan and Manisekaran on November 24, the sources said.
