Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) officials arrested officials of Rural Development Engineering Division here on Monday for receiving graft from a contractor.
According to sources, a government-registered contractor from Paramakudi Taluk in Ramanathapuram District was awarded a work order for laying tar roads under the Ramanathapuram District Rural Development scheme.
After completing the work, the complainant approached Senior Draughting Officer Veerasekaran of the Rural Development Engineering Division in the district on October 24, 2025, to request the release of the payment for the completed works.
But, Veerasekaran, allegedly demanded a commission of ₹1.20 lakh to release the payment and insisted that the bribe money be handed over to Junior Draughting Officer Nagalingam.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the contractor filed a complaint with the DVAC in Ramanathapuram.
Acting on the instructions of the DVAC officials, the complainant handed over the chemically-treated currency notes to Veerasekaran, Nagalingam, and Office Assistant Arun.
The DVAC sleuths then caught the three officials red-handed while accepting the bribe. DVAC officials, said, the three men were arrested.
