Education is the foundation for social progress, says T.N. CM Stalin

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Saturday (December 6, 2025) said education remained the foundation for social progress and his government had been giving special focus to education by strengthening learning through various schemes.

Mr. Stalin inaugurated two social justice hostels for women college students, additional buildings for 21 schools, and 25 village knowledge centres built at a total cost of ₹74.2 crore in various places in the State. He also distributed welfare assistance under the Thaayumanavar scheme, education scholarships, self-employment grants, and other welfare assistance worth ₹265.50 crore to 9,371 beneficiaries at the Anna Centenary Library in Chennai. Speaking at the event, Mr. Stalin said his government’s objective was to create an egalitarian society. “That is why whenever the DMK comes to power, we give special focus to implementing many social welfare schemes,” he said.

Listing several schemes implemented by the State government for the welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, including the Tholkudi, Nannilam, and Annal Ambedkar Overseas Scholarship Scheme, the Chief Minister said: “The Dravidian model government focuses on those who were denied opportunities in order to uplift them. Our government has been implementing several schemes for the welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.”

During the event, the Chief Minister also presented awards to 10 village panchayats for upholding social harmony without any caste discrimination and handed over ₹1 crore to each panchayat for development activities. The selected panchayats were Melamadai in Ramanathapuram district; Paraiyanthangal in Villupuram; K. Alangulam and Kalingapatti (Tenkasi); Suriyanarkoil and Venkatasamudram (Thanjavur); Manivizhundhan (Salem); Mannivakkam (Chengalpattu); Ottarpalayam (Coimbatore); and Thevoor (Nagapattinam).
