“Eighteen marquee events and over 150 programmes have been planned across the city as part of the 18th edition of Coimbatore Vizha,” said District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar at the launch of the Vizha held at PVR Cinemas, Brookefields Mall, on Friday.
“The Vizha brings together people of all age groups and sectors, and beyond entertainment, it also aims to create awareness on road safety and environmental conservation. As a part of the event, the district administration will also organise a photo exhibition featuring portraits that highlight Coimbatore’s history and evolution,” he added.
Coimbatore MP Ganapathi P. Rajkumar said Coimbatore Vizha has become a tradition that reflects the city’s collective spirit. As the city advances towards Tier-I status with developments in the IT sector and major infrastructure projects such as the airport expansion and metro rail, the Vizha continues to serve as a celebration of the city’s growth and identity, he said.
Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran said Coimbatore Vizha reflects collaboration between civic bodies, organisations, and the public. Describing it as a landmark event for the city’s citizens, he said the Corporation will extend full support for its smooth conduct across venues.
Organised by the Young Indians (Yi) Coimbatore Chapter, the 18th edition of Coimbatore Vizha will be held from November 14 to 24 under the theme Infinity Edition.
The main attraction this year will be Sky Dance, a projection mapping experience that will showcase the city’s history and development through laser projection, at CODISSIA grounds every evening.
