In a shocking incident, family members allegedly abandoned an 80-year-old man on the District Headquarters Hospital premises here on Sunday night.
The elderly man, identified as Arunachalam from Kodumudi, was reportedly brought to the hospital by his daughter and relatives. However, instead of admitting him, they allegedly left him on the campus and drove away.
Hospital visitors found the man lying on the ground throughout the night, unable to walk or speak properly. Suffering from mosquito bites, he was later given food and tea by a few compassionate members of the public.
The Erode GH, which receives thousands of patients daily from across the district and neighbouring areas, witnessed a distressing sight as the abandoned man remained unattended until morning. The incident has sparked public outrage and calls for authorities to take appropriate action against those responsible for abandoning the elderly man. Erode GH police are investigating.
