Elderly woman dies after goat shed wall collapses in Erode

A 60-year-old woman died after a mud wall of her goat shed collapsed on her at Ottavalasu near Chennimalai on Monday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Muthammal, wife of Chidambaram, who was engaged in goat rearing. According to the police, her husband had gone to work four days ago, leaving her alone at home. Around 3.30 p.m., her neighbour Mayammal found her lying dead under the collapsed wall of the goat shed, which had mud walls and a tiled roof. The body was sent to the Government Erode Medical College and Hospital, Perundurai, for post-mortem.

Preliminary investigations by the Chennimalai police revealed that the shed wall had developed cracks earlier and might have collapsed after being weakened by recent rain. The police have registered a case and are investigating further.
