A three-day training programme on “Jolly Phonics” and “Jolly Grammar” methods was held in Nagapattinam for 30 primary-level English teachers from October 27 to 29.
Organised under Samagra Shiksha, Tamil Nadu, in collaboration with Jolly Futures, the programme focused on improving English literacy through activity-based, child-friendly techniques.
The sessions, conducted at E.G.S. Pillai College of Arts and Science, were inaugurated by Chief Educational Officer M. Ravichandran. Trainer Aparna Jayaraman led the sessions while District Coordinator S. Sachithanantham organised the event. Officials said the ‘Jolly Phonics’ approach, once used mainly in private schools, is now being adopted in government schools to help Tamil-medium students strengthen English pronunciation and reading skills.
