Karnataka Safai Karmachari Commission Chairperson P. Raghu on Friday told authorities to ensure that families of deceased sanitation workers receive the mandated ₹10 lakh compensation, even as the issue of compassionate appointments remains pending at the government level.

He was interacting with pourakarmikas and sanitation workers at a grievance redressal meeting in the East Corporation. During the interaction, workers flagged long-standing issues such as lack of basic facilities, recruitment hurdles, delays in compensation, PF related concerns, biometric attendance glitches, salary arrears, and inadequate toilets and rest rooms.

Mr. Raghu directed officials to initiate corrective measures immediately.

To address the grievances, Mr. Raghu instructed the corporation to construct and expand restrooms and toilets at all mustering points, clear all pending salary payments without delay and coordinate with the Social Welfare Department to issue validity certificates required for recruitment processes.

He also encouraged workers to approach officers directly instead of relying on middlemen for official work.

Unauthorised stalls cleared in Uttarahalli, Koramangala

Meanwhile, nine pushcarts, four advertisement poles, two temporary shelters, stands, and several unauthorised banners and boards were removed on Friday during a footpath encroachment clearance drive carried out by the South Corporation in Uttarahalli and Koramangala.

South Corporation Commissioner Ramesh K.N. said that the drive was part of ongoing efforts to clear illegally occupied footpaths that hinder pedestrian movement.

The action followed multiple public complaints and directions from senior officials after inspections revealed extensive encroachments by shops, stalls, and street vendors, he said.

Footpath clearance was carried out from Anagha Grand Hotel at Uttarahalli to the road leading to Sri Guru Raghavendra Swamy Mutt and from Forum Mall in Koramangala to the water tank.
