Entangled leopard extricated from fence, released inside reserve forest in Tiruppur

An injured leopard that had got entangled in a chain link fence of an isolated reserve forest in Tiruppur division was rescued and released deep inside Andipatti reserve forest, on Tuesday (October 28, 2025).

The leopard had got ensnared in one of the chain link fences in an agricultural field adjacent to the Tiruppur buffer division boundary in the 250 metres surroundings of the isolated block in Kolumam range of Tiruppur forest division. It was declared as Andipatti Block I reserved forest three months ago.

Under the supervision of B, Rajesh, District Forest Officer and Field Director of Anamalai Tiger Reserve (ATR), forest veterinary officer Vennila and retired veterinarian Manoharan administered a sedative and extricated the leopard from the chain link fence.

On examination, the forest team found a minor laceration wound on the skin and applied medicine.

Thereafter, it was caged and released about 5 km inside the nearby Andipatti reserve forest, a contiguous forest area of buffer zone of ATR.
