Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation has begun Employees’ Enrolment Campaign – 2025 with an aim of allowing employers to voluntarily declare and enrol eligible employees, who were left out from EPF coverage, between July 1, 2017 and October 31, 2025.

The special compliance window would remain open between November 1, 2025 till April 30, 2026, said Commissioner of EPFO, Madurai Regional Office, S. Azhahiya Manavalan.

Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, Mr. Manavalan said that the special compliance window would help the employers regularise past defaults with minimal penal consequences.

“Employers would face 100% penalty of the total outstanding contribution in normal process for not including eligible employee under EPF coverage for a minimum of six months. However, under the special campaign, the employer need to pay only ₹100 penalty,” he said.

The employers have to make an online submission of details of all the left-out employees between July 1, 2017 and October 31, 2025 in a single declaration form.

Subsequently, the employers need to generate universal account number for each of the declared employee and make the contribution, along with interest, meant for each of them.

However, the employees’ share of contribution need not be paid for the declared period, he added.

Stating that during a similar special campaign, Madurai Regional Office had added 24,000 employees in 2017, Mr. Manavalan said that leaving out this meagre number of employees out of 5 lakh membership in Madurai Regional Office did not reflect any failure of enforcement by the EPFO, he clarified.

“The objective of the campaign is to ensure that the employees do not miss out their eligibility to get pensionary benefits under EPF by not meeting the minimum 10 years of membership to get the social security benefit,” he added.

Madurai Regional Office has enrolled under EPF scheme 5 lakh employees of 9,000 institutions from Madurai, Virudhunagar, Theni, Dindigul, Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram districts.
