District Collector s. Kandasamy has appealed to voters across the eight Assembly constituencies in the district to promptly submit their enumeration forms to ensure the timely preparation of the draft electoral rolls.
Addressing the media at the Collectorate here on Thursday, he said 2,222 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have distributed voter verification forms to 19.97 lakh voters after removing names of those who had moved away or died. Only one per cent of forms remain to be distributed, and steps are being taken to complete this, he added. As of now, 73% of forms have been collected. Of these, 25% of voters were found to be part of the 2002 voter list, and 26% were identified as belonging to the same families. He said the draft electoral roll is scheduled for release on December 9.
For voters listed as âNo Matchâ when compared with the 2002 rolls, proof of residence will be collected after the publication of the draft roll, and they will be added accordingly. New voters will also be enrolled after the draft roll is published, he added
The Collector said that assistance is being provided through constituency-level help centres and BLOs, and urged voters not to wait until December 4 to submit their forms. Of the 19.97 lakh voters, 14 lakh forms have already been retrieved. The district has identified 58,775 voters who have migrated, amounting to a 2.95% reduction.
Mr. Kandasamy emphasised that voter list preparation is a democratic responsibility and called on the public to cooperate. He said that uploading 100% of forms by November 30 would help finalise the draft electoral roll on time.
