A one-and-a-half-year-old girl, who was reported missing from Kovaikkal near Chithode in Erode district on October 16, was rescued in Namakkal district after 25 days.
The police said that Vandhana, daughter of Andhra Pradesh natives Venkatesh and Keerthana, went missing while sleeping under a bridge along the Salem–Coimbatore National Highway. The couple earned a living by making and selling household mats.
Based on a complaint lodged by the parents, six special teams were formed to trace the child. The Chithode police, under the directions of District Police Superintendent A. Sujatha, examined CCTV footage along the national highway and coordinated with multiple police teams and trace the child to Namakkal.
Further investigations are under way.
