Agriculture scientists and experts from various organisations working on the implementation of the climate-resilient projects hailed the Climate Adaptation and Resilience in Agriculture (CARA) project being implemented by the Accion Fraterna-Ecology Centre in Anantapur district, saying that it could become a role model for the country.
On the concluding day of two-day Technical Advisory Committee meeting on Saturday, the agriculture scientists hailed the process of involving the community-based organisations in 12 adopted villages to conserve natural resources.
The AFEC has been implementing the project for the past year using state-of-the-art technologies to study the baseline of the conditions in the villages, bringing in a change involving communities in the way they look after small ruminants, develop water resources and adopt the five-layer agroecology concept for reducing the vulnerabilities, said AFEC Director Y.V. Malla Reddy.
Former ICAR Director Bandi Venkateswarlu; N.H. Ravindranath, retired professor of Centre for Sustainable Technologies of the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, and B.S. Sushma of the same institute, along with former Dean of Agriculture in Acharya N.G. Ranga University, T. Yellamanda Reddy, after visiting villages, gave some suggestions for course corrections.
The cooperative methodology in bringing together all farmers in a village to plant trees and do agriculture, sharing common resources was strikingly attractive to emulate, said Mr. Venkateswarlu.
Representatives of FES, Wassan and APMAS Bhaktar Vali, Pavan and Gopal Raju also participated in the programme.
