A 42-year-old farmer died after stepping on an illegally erected electrical fencing at Thoppalakarai here on Sunday.
According to the police, farmer Marisamy, 42, of Thoppalakarai near Thiruchuli, while going to his farm to apply manure stepped on an illegal electrical fencing installed in a nearby farmland.
Subsequently, he got electrocuted. As he was missing for many hours, his son went in search and found him lying dead.
The Keelaparalachi police were informed about the death and the deceased was carried to nearby government hospital.
The police have registered a case and further investigation is underway. Owner of farmland who installed the illegal electrical fencing was absconding.
