A farmer, I. Palpandi, 60, of Uthamapalayam taluk in Theni district was hacked to death by unidentified persons in the early hours of Tuesday.
According to the police, two men who came on a motorcycle hacked Palpandi to death. The relatives of Palpandi staged a protest by blocking Theni-Cumbum highway. They demanded that the police should immediately arrest the assalants.
The police officials assured the family members of Palpandi that they would take necessary steps to nab the accused. Following the assurance given by the police, the family members of Palpandi withdrew their protest.
