Farmers’ body demands compensation of ₹35,000 per acre

The Thamizhaga Cauvery Vivasayigal Sangam has demanded ₹35,000 per acre as compensation for the crop loss suffered by farmers.

In a statement issued on October 27, Sangam general secretary P. R. Pandian exhorted the Tamil Nadu government to conduct a transparent enumeration of the ‘kuruvai’ and ‘samba’ crop loss suffered by the delta farmers and disburse ₹35,000 per acre as compensation through the Disaster Management Department.

Steps should be initiated by the Agriculture Department to help farmers, who had insured their crops, to receive insurance compensation, he added.
