Collector S. Kandasamy has urged farmers and traders to make full use of the warehouses and cold storage facilities at regulated markets across the district, either on a rental or contract basis.

A release said warehouses with a total capacity of 73,654 metric tonnes, functioning under the Erode Market Committee, offer safe storage for agricultural produce at low rental charges, protecting them from rain and other damage. Farmers are encouraged to store their produce and sell it during favourable price periods for better returns.

Pledge loans are available against stored produce — up to ₹5 lakh for farmers, ₹2 lakh for traders, and ₹10 lakh for Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs). Insurance coverage has been arranged to protect goods from fire, theft, and other risks.

Warehouses with a total capacity of 57,130 metric tonnes at Perundurai, Avalpoondurai, Elumathur, Sivagiri, Kodumudi, Anthiyur, Boothapadi, Mylambadi, and Sathyamangalam markets are registered with the Warehouse Development and Regulatory Authority (WDRA). Farmers and traders can avail loans up to 70–75% of produce value from banks using electronic Negotiable Warehouse Receipts (e-NWRs). Loans worth ₹2 crore have been sanctioned under this scheme during the current fiscal.

Modern cold storages are functioning at 11 locations, including Alukuli, Sathyamangalam, Chithode, Thalavadi and Bargur, with a total capacity of several thousand tonnes. So far, 270 farmers have benefited by storing 4,400 tonnes of produce.

The facilities preserve turmeric, pulses, chillies, tamarind, coriander, and even perishable fruits and vegetables without quality loss or preservatives.

For details, contact 0424-2339102 or the nearest regulated market, the release added.
