Two persons, Chandran, 49, and his son Rivin have been detained under the Goondas Act. The duo were arrested and remanded in judicial custody in connection with a murder case.

On October 12, Chandran allegedly hacked to death 24-year-old Ramachandran. Ramachandran had married Chandran’s 21-year-old daughter against her family’s wishes.

According to the police, Ramachandran, a milk vendor, fell in love with Chandran’s daughter and married her a few months ago. It is alleged that her parents and brother were opposed to the wedding and frequently threatened the couple.

On the day of the incident, when Ramachandran was riding his bike at Kootathu Ayyampalayam near Viralipatti, Chandran waylaid him. He then allegedly attacked Ramachandran with a sickle. Ramachandran died of bleeding injuries.

The police sent the body to Dindigul Government Medical College and Hospital for a postmortem. Nilakottai police had registered a case of murder. The victim and his wife belonged to the Backward Community. Chandran’s wife Anbuselvi was also arrested and remanded in judicial custody.

Based on the recommendation of Dindigul Superintendent of Police A. Pradeep, Dindigul Collector S. Saravanan ordered detention of Chandran and Rivin under the Goondas Act. The father and son duo have been lodged in Madurai Central Prison.
