The Federation of Associations of Telangana Higher Education Institutions (FATHI) has announced that it will hold a massive ‘Maha Students’ Rally’ on November 11, with nearly ten lakh students expected to march towards the Telangana Secretariat in Hyderabad. The rally is part of the ongoing protest demanding resolution of key issues concerning higher education in the State.
In a statement issued on the third day of the bandh on Wednesday, November 5, FATHI said its executive committee members had also released the poster for the upcoming, Telangana Teachers’ Reconciliation Meet (Telangana Adhyapaka Savantana Sabha), scheduled for November 8 at LB Stadium. The event is expected to draw around one lakh teaching and non-teaching staff from across all the 33 districts of Telangana.
As part of its continuing protest, the federation has decided to boycott the B. Pharmacy regular and supplementary examinations scheduled by the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTUH) on Thursday, November 9. “No pharmacy college will function in the entire State,” FATHI declared, urging the university’s Vice-Chancellor and Registrar to indefinitely postpone the exams.
The federation also appealed to the Chief Secretary to include banking and finance experts, rather than bureaucrats, in the proposed trust bank committee. Additionally, FATHI demanded the transfer of A. Sridevasena, In-charge Secretary of the Education Department, alleging that she had been misguiding the Chief Minister and other Ministers on academic matters.
The organisation reiterated its call for the immediate release of ₹5,000 crore out of the ₹10,000 crore in pending fee reimbursement dues, stating that the delay has severely impacted private higher education institutions across Telangana.
