A lorry laden with fertilizer was damaged after it caught fire near Gudalur in the Nilgiris on Saturday (November 1, 2025). The Fire and Rescue Services said that a lorry carrying magnesium sulphate from Salem was damaged in the fire near Deivamalai on the Coimbatore – Ooty – Gundlupet highway, around eight km off Gudalur town.
The lorry caught fire at about 8 a.m. on Saturday when it was heading to Gudalur through the ghat section. Firefighters from the Gudalur fire station put out the flames by 10 a.m. Personnel from the Gudalur and Naduvattam police stations regulated the traffic, which was disrupted due to the fire.

According to the Fire and Rescue Services, the driver of the lorry escaped after the fire. Traffic along the road towards Udhagamandalam and Gudalur was disrupted.
A police officer said that a large quantity of fertilizer was damaged. The Naduvattam police have launched an investigation to trace the owner and driver of the lorry.
The Fire and Rescue Services were yet to ascertain the cause of the fire.
