The Agriculture Department in Ramanathapuram district has instructed the fertiliser sales outlets in the district to strictly follow directions issued by the State government.

Department officials said the private shops and primary agriculture co-operative credit societies should make sure the details of fertilisers stock availability and prices were displayed to the customers.

Importantly, they were also directed to fulfil the sales only upon the confirmation of Aadhar IDs of the farmers, the official added. “Even if that is followed, it should be ensured that the sales are recorded in the outlets’ digital sales system and proper receipts are handed over to the customers,” he added.

Failing to do so would attract strict action against the proprietor under the fertiliser (control) order 1985.

Regarding the availability and stockage of fertilisers in the district, the official said, the total allocation of urea, DAP, potash, complex, super phosphate and triple super phosphate was 42,215 metric tonne.

And the fertilisers received so far till November was 29,094 metric tonne. “While 26,574 metric tonne have been sold out till date, 7,317 metric tonne is available in stock,” the official noted.

Of the 7,317 metric tonne, 5,216 metric tonne was with private outlets and 2,101 metric tonne with primary agriculture co-operative credit societies.

The agricultural official said, “We have enough stock of fertilisers to fulfil the needs of farmers this year.  The calculation we arrive at after foreseeing the need for a year would mostly be sufficient and if the need exceeds due to unexpected reasons, we have backups plans to fill the gaps too.”
