Fifteen mobiles recovered from inmates at Parappana Agrahara prison

Mobile phones continue to ring inside the high-security Central Prison at Parappana Agrahara.

During a series of surprise inspections, the prison staff seized 15 mobile phones, 11 SIM cards, three chargers, and three earphones from various barracks on November 26.

A team of prison officials carried out surprise inspections as part of a routine exercise and found mobile phones concealed in the pillow of one of the convicts identified as Muniraju. The officials intensified the search and find other mobile phones concealed in the bathroom window sills and cupboards of other inmates.

The officials conducted a detailed inquiry before zeroing in on two convicts, including Rabikul Islam and Muniraju, and filed a complaint. Based on the complaint filed by Paramesh H. S., Superintendent of the Prison, the Parappana Aagrahara police charged the accused under various sections of the Karnataka Prisons Act, 1963.

Mr. Paramesh has requested the police to probe the source of the phones and how it was brought into the prison, hoodwinking security checks.
