The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has instructed the party’s MPs to strongly raise the most urgent public issues of Andhra Pradesh in the Parliament sessions beginning on Monday.

“The fight in Parliament must centre around the severe distress facing farmers due to cyclone damage and the collapse of Minimum Support Price across major crops, which has pushed the agriculture sector into a crisis,” he said.

Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy, on Sunday, expressed serious concern over the devastation caused by Cyclone Montha, which destroyed lakhs of acres of crops in coastal districts. ‘’Farmers who lost their entire harvest are under unbearable financial pressure as neither the State nor the Centre has provided compensation. Adding to their woes is the complete failure to ensure the Minimum Support Price (MSP). While the previous YSRCP government guaranteed MSP through RBKs and direct procurement, the present government has abandoned farmers, leaving them to be exploited by traders and middlemen,’’ he said.

‘’The MSP has fallen sharply across major crops, including paddy, maize, black gram, cotton, red gram, banana, mirchi and mango, pushing farmers into extreme hardship,’’ he said, adding that the MPs must insist on emergency relief funds and immediate restoration of assured MSP procurement.

The YSRCP chief said that free crop insurance, which was provided automatically and without premium under the previous YSRCP government, had now been denied, leaving farmers unprotected during natural calamities. Input subsidy was also not being provided. The government had stopped the enumeration of e-crop, causing chaos in crop data and denying farmers eligibility for compensation and support, he said.. Chilli farmers were promised financial support but were deceived, and mango farmers were left helpless as the government failed to ensure companies paid their committed share, he added.

Alleging that 18.63 lakh MGNREGA job cards had been removed, depriving rural families of livelihood security, he demanded immediate restoration of genuine job cards and release of pending wages.

The former CM directed the MPs to oppose the ongoing ‘’attempt to privatise the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant in parts’’, warning that inviting private players to take over individual units was a dangerous path toward full privatisation. He said the sacrifices of thousands of farmers, who gave land and even their lives for the plant must not be betrayed. He demanded immediate cancellation of partial-privatisation plans, allocation of captive iron ore mines and revival of the plant to protect the livelihood of thousands of workers and contract employees.

Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy called upon the MPs to fight for pending central funds, employment creation and the overall protection of Andhra Pradesh’s rights and welfare, stating that the voice of the people must be heard strongly in Parliament.
