A fire broke out at the Greater Bengaluru Authority’s (GBA) commercial complex in Jayanagar 4th Block on Monday, due to suspected short circuit triggering panic among employees and visitors.

Two fire tenders rushed to the spot, doused the fire and brought the situation under control.

The fire personnel rescued Krishne Gowda, who was trapped inside a lift. Another person, Arun Prasad, an employee of the Minor Irrigation Department, was provided first aid and later shifted to a hospital.

Greater Bengaluru Authority Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao and South City Corporation Commissioner K.N. Ramesh visited the site and carried out an inspection.

Officials confirmed that no major damage occurred to the building or the offices, though the electrical duct sustained damage due to the short circuit.

Probe team formed

Mr. Ramesh said a team comprising officials from the South Zone, Bescom, and the Fire and Emergency Services has been formed to investigate the exact cause of the electrical failure and submit a detailed report.

As a precaution, power supply to the entire commercial complex has been cut, and all shops and offices have been temporarily closed to facilitate a complete inspection and repair of the electrical wiring.

During the inspection, the authorities also instructed officials to remove unauthorised vendors and clear the pedestrian pathways around the complex, which had been encroached upon.
