A fire broke out at a commercial building in Naraina Industrial Area in the early hours of Tuesday, leading to the collapse of the upper floors of the building and trapping a shop owner inside, a police officer said.
The shopowner has been identified as Roha Dass, a resident of Rajouri Garden.
Over 25 fire tenders have been rushed to the spot since it was first reported at 2.45 a.m. The fire could not be extinguished even after 20 hours, as a huge quantity of paint, a highly inflammable material, was stored on one of the floors, fueling the fire.
A Delhi Fire Services official said the firefighters have successfully prevented the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings.
No casualties have been reported. Search and rescue operations continue, the official said.
Multiple agencies, including Delhi Police, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority, and the National Disaster Response Force, were at the scene.
Police said a case under Section 287 (negligent conduct with fire or combustible matter) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered.
The cause of the fire will be determined after forensic and fire safety experts inspect the site, the officer said.
