The Crime Prevention and Detection Squad of the Railway Protection Force rescued five children and arrested two persons, believed to be child traffickers, during Operation Anti Human Trafficking at Visakhapatnam Junction railway station on Sunday (November 9.
The suspects have been identified as Sudha Kumari alias Shantha and Sukh Bai Dhadi. The police team, led by sub-inspector V. Keerthi Reddy, was acting on a tip-off about the involvement of a group in child begging on trains.
During the subsequent investigation, it was found that the group had brought the children from Math village, Kharoara Mandal, Raipur district, Chhattisgarh, to Visakhapatnam by luring them with money. The children were then forced to beg on trains such as Janmabhoomi Express and Ratnachal Express, earning nearly ₹2,000 a day for the traffickers.
The rescued children were produced before the Child Welfare Committee, which ordered that they be placed in Government Children’s Homes for Care and Protection.
A case was registered with the Government Railway Police, Visakhapatnam, under BNS Section 143 (Trafficking of Persons) and was transferred to Kharoara PS/Raipur for further investigation.
