The Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU) of the Chennai police has arrested five persons in connection with the alleged possession and sale of ganja on Thursday (November 21, 2025).

A senior official from the city police said the Thirumangalam police had received a tip-off that a person named Thyageswaran was involved in selling ganja. A police team detained him on Wednesday (November 20). It was later found that three others were the key players in the procurement and supply of the drug.

A police team led by ANIU Inspector John Chellappa on Thursday arrested the trio, R. Sarath of Valsaravakkam, K. Srinivasan of Mogappair East, and M. Sarbudheen Mohammad Masthan of Teynampet, when they tried to escape.

The police team, after further investigation, seized more than 10 g of ganja, ₹27 lakh in cash, and an SUV, along with mobile phones, from the accused persons.

The ANIU police team later arrested two others named Harish and Sai in connection with the case. They are reportedly members of the AIADMK.
