Five men including history-sheeters arrested for attacking auto driver in Chennai

The CMBT Police in Chennai have arrested five persons including four history sheeters on charges of attempting to murder an auto driver.

Police said S. Ganesh (37) of Kolathur, works as an auto driver. While he was waiting near a private hotel in Koyambedu for passengers on Saturday (November 1, 2025), his friend Vignesh, with whom he had a previous dispute, arrived with four others.

The group abused Ganesh and attacked him with a knife, attempting to murder him, before fleeing in an auto and two-wheelers. Ganesh, who sustained bleeding injuries, was admitted to Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for treatment. Based on his complaint, CMBT police registered a case of attempt to murder and began investigation.

After inquiry, the police arrested five suspects Srinivasan alias Chinnakaruppu (21), Vignesh alias Masi (32), Danithkumar alias Periyakaruppu (22), Jeeva alias Chinna (22), and Muthaiyan (22) — all residents of Kolathur.

Investigation revealed that the four men — Srinivasan, Vignesh, Danithkumar, and Jeeva — are history-sheeters with records at the Rajamangalam police station. While Srinivasan has two prior cases; Vignesh has 13 cases, including two for attempted murder and assault; Danithkumar has five cases, including robbery and assault; and Jeeva has two previous cases.

All five accused were remanded to judicial custody.
