A five-year-old girl died in a leopard attack in an areca plantation near Shivapura in Tarikere taluk on Thursday, November 20.

The wild animal took away Sanvi, daughter of Basavaraj and Renuka, while she was playing outside their house around 6 p.m. Her father, who noticed the animal running away with his daughter, ran behind the animal screaming. However, the animal disappeared with the baby within a few seconds.

The parents informed the Biruru police, who looked for the baby with the help of the local people. They found the baby’s body about a kilometre away from the house.

The couple, natives of Dharwad, had been working at a plantation belonging to Ramachandrappa, who resides in Bengaluru.
