The uncertainty arising out of flight cancellations and delays has adversely affected the essential travels of a few patients to Hyderabad, a major medical tourism destination, and other cities. Some of the major hospitals in Hyderabad and specialist doctors said that a few of their patients from other States have either postponed or advised to postpone their planned visits due to the cancellations and high air fare. The hospitals and doctors have offered online consultations and monitoring.

“Omega Hospitals are proactively managing this situation by offering flexible appointment rescheduling, prioritizing cancer patient evaluations. We  advise senior citizens and vulnerable patients to postpone non-essential travel until stability returns. Keeping in view the challenges , we have fully activated our call centers with doctors and specialists to support 24/7 for the patients who are in immediate need,” group COO of Omega Hospitals Mahender Pala said.

Anticipating more cancellations and delays, some of their specialist doctors, including oncologists, agreed to work on this Sunday so that patients in critical care, such as cancer treatment, are attended to.

Another major corporate hospital too advised their inter-State patients to postpone visits till the situation stabilises and offered online consultations.

Tom Cherian, founder of South Asian Liver Institute in Hyderabad, said that a person from Assam was supposed to go back after consultation on Friday. “They had to stay back in the city as their flight was rescheduled,” said Dr. Cherian.

Sharanya Kumar, consultant-Cardiothoracic Anesthesia and Critical Care, said that a patient was supposed to come to Chennai for follow-up consultation on Saturday. However, due to the situation, they have rescheduled the visit.
