A Special Court here sentenced a former Headmaster of Government Madrasa-I-Azam Higher Secondary School, Anna Salai, to two years of imprisonment for demanding and accepting ₹1,500 as bribe for issuing a transfer certificate.

According to the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), in 2012, one Akthavullah wanted to help his neighbour Harun’s son, Sadiq Basha, get a job. To do this, he tried to get a transfer certificate (TC) from Madrasa-I-Azam school, where Sadiq Basha had studied up to Class VIII.

The then headmaster, Abdul Hakeem  demanded ₹2,000. When Akthavullah refused, the headmaster demanded ₹1,500.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, Akthavullah lodged a complaint with the DVAC.

Following this, the DVAC officers laid a trap and arrested Abdul Hakeem while receiving ₹1,500 on April 12, 2012.

At the conclusion of trial, Special Court for DVAC cases sentenced the former headmaster to imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1,000 on him.
