Sixty former history-sheeters were involved in public service activity, marking a shift from traditional surveillance methods in a latest initiative by the Rachakonda police. Instead of confining them to their homes, the programme brings selected individuals into mainstream public life through social service.

Those who have shown signs of transformation have been assigned duties in traffic management at major junctions across the commissionerate, including Uppal, LB Nagar and ECIL. Working alongside volunteers and traffic personnel, they have been helping regulate vehicle flow and guiding commuters during peak hours.

As part of the initiative, 20 well-behaved ex-history-sheeters each from Uppal, LB Nagar and Kushaiguda police stations voluntarily supported traffic regulation and public awareness efforts taken up by the Kushaiguda police.

“I remember the mistakes I made in the past, and I am proud to have the opportunity to serve people now,” one participant said, describing the experience as start of a new life after years of social rejection.

The Rachakonda police intend to expand the programme by including more individuals under surveillance who are willing to reform themselves.
