The Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation Ltd. (TGREDCO) has been conferred with ‘Award of Excellence in Urban Transport’ under the category ’City with the Best Green Transport Initiative’ by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. It will be presented to the corporation on November 9.

TGREDCO is the State nodal agency for EV charging infrastructure and a single-window clearance agency. It gives no-objection certificates (NOCs) to private entities wanting to set up public EV charging stations.

Currently, there are around 1,030 EV charging stations across Telangana, including TGREDCO, private, and Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC). The agency aims to scale up the initiative with 6,000 EV charging stations by 2030 and 12,000 by 2035, underpinned by Telangana’s EV & Energy Storage Policy (2020–2030) and Clean Energy Policy (2025), as per a press note.

10.15 million units in Sept.

The consumption of energy at the EV charging stations across the State, excluding EV charging points at houses, has increased by four-fold. While the consumption was 2.60 million units in September 2024, it has increased to 10.15 million units in September this year. This has gradually increased over the last one year without any sudden spikes.

Number of EV charging stations across Telangana – around 1,030

Number of EV charging stations in Hyderabad – around 600

The 600 EVCS excludes charging points at houses, includes 150 EVCS of TGREDCO

TGREDCO aims to increase EVCS 6,000 EV charging stations by 2030 and 12,000 by 2035

Fleet of EV buses up

The major driving force behind the increased consumption is TGSRTC – which has its own charging stations. While it was only 0.4 MU in September last year, it has increased to 7.8 MU in September of this year. Of the 10.15 MU in September 2024, 7.81 MU was at TGSRTC charging stations. The corporation has increased its fleet of EV buses and aims to add more of these vehicles.

“Through a strong public, private & citizen model, Hyderabad has established itself as a national leader in clean and inclusive transport transition. The TGREDCO’s efforts have led to 329% growth in EVCS usage within nine months and 14.9% modal shift to electric and non-motorised transport,” as per a press note.

Meanwhile, Managing Director of TGREDCO, V. Anila, said that theaward is a recognition of Telangana’s unwavering commitment to sustainable transport and green innovation. “TGREDCO remains dedicated to advancing the State’s clean mobility mission and positioning Hyderabad as a benchmark for future-ready, eco-friendly urban transport in India,” she said.
