Four more arrested for robbing Theni native of ₹50 lakh near Coimbatore

The Coimbatore District Police have arrested four more persons attached to a gang that robbed a Theni native of ₹50 lakh near Perur on October 18.

N. Dharmaraj, 32, of Karuppayurani in Madurai, B. Venkatprabhu, 25, of Sellur in Madurai, M. PichaImalai, 24, of Arasanoor in Sivagangai district and R. Hariprasath, 31, of Narasipuram near Alandurai in Coimbatore district were arrested on Friday. The police seized a car and four sovereigns of gold from them.

The police had arrested S. Alagupandi, 31, V. Gobi, 28, and V. Murugan alias Kutti, 27, all from LKP Nagar at Sakkimangalam in Madurai district, on October 19 and recovered ₹2.51 lakh from them. Two others, namely Arun Kumar, 25, and Muthutamil Maran,19, of Arasanoor in Sivagangai district, were arrested from Chennai on October 22.

The Perur police were on the lookout for the members of the gang after M. Vijay, 26, of Cumbum in Theni district lodged a complaint, alleging that more than 10 persons robbed him of ₹50 lakh near Madhampatty. According to the police, Dharmaraj lured Vijay to Coimbatore, promising him to arrange 200 sovereigns of old gold ornaments for ₹50 lakh.
