Four of a family, including two children, were found dead in a well at Chikkamalligawad village in Dharwad taluk on Friday.
The deceased have been identified as 42-year-old Narayan Shindhe, his 80-year-old father Vittal Shindhe, his 12-year-old son Shivakumar Shindhe (12) and 11-year-old daughter Srinidhi Shindhe.
Their bodies were found in the well of Yallamma Devi Temple.
According to initial information, the family reportedly took the extreme step of ending their lives by jumping into the well after being distraught with mounting loan burden.
Their death came to light after cattle grazers found the bodies floating in the well.
The Dharwad Rural Police have registered a case and Superintendent of Police Gunjan Arya visited the spot. Further investigation is on.
