Four of family sentenced to life in murder case

Four of a family were sentenced to life imprisonment by a local court in Medchal on Tuesday for killing of a man in Suraram over four years ago.

The accused were identified as Jarpati Maisaiah, 49; Jarpati Gangaraju alias Gangulu, 27; Jarpati Yadamma, 40; and Markandeya Manoj Kumar alias Chintu alias Shiva, 22.

The case dates back to August 12, 2021, when the Dundigal police received a complaint from the daughter of the deceased, Anjaneyulu. She reported that around midnight, her mother received a call from her brother-in-law, Gangulu, stating that he, his father Maisaiah and other relatives were assaulting Anjaneyulu, whom they suspected of causing the death of his mother, three months earlier. Despite the family’s pleas over the phone, the call was disconnected.

At about 1.40 a.m., the complainant received another call, this time from Manoj Kumar, who informed her that they had killed her father and asked her to arrange an auto to collect the body before switching off his phone. The complainant, accompanied by her husband, mother and an auto driver, rushed to the family’s house in Suraram’s Dayanand Nagar where they found Anjaneyulu lying in a pool of blood in a room.

Based on the complaint, Dundigal police registered a case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and initiated a probe. investigation led to the arrest of the four accused on August 13, 2021. A juvenile involved in the case was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board.

Upon completion of the investigation, a charge sheet was filed against all accused. Following the bifurcation of police stations, the case was subsequently transferred to Suraram police station. During the trial, the prosecution, represented by Additional Public Prosecutor V. Vijay Reddy, presented witnesses and material evidence before the court.

After examining the evidence, the accused were convicted on all charges. The court also slapped a fine of ₹1,000 under Section 302 (murder), ₹500 under Section 364 (kidnapping), ₹500 under Section 342 r/w 34 (wrongful confinement) of the IPC.
