A gang led by history-sheeter Ammavasai Vicky assaulted a group of residents of Sivasakthi Nagar, leaving a 34-year-old woman grievously injured, in Kolathur on Saturday night.

City police said the accused, who had more than 25 criminal cases pending, recently came out of jail. He and four of his associates planned to assault two persons – Varun and Akash – over a personal enmity, and went in search of them in their locality in Sivasakthi Nagar. Upon not finding them there, the gang randomly assaulted the residents.

The injured have been identified as Chandra, 52, and her son Rajesh, 36. The gang also intercepted Karthik and his friends in Girija Nagar, and attacked them with weapons and bottles. Karthik has been admitted to the Kilpauk government medical college hospital in a critical condition. Karthik’s friends Tamizhselvan and Manoj also received knife injuries.

Then the gang went to the Koyambedu bus stand, and attacked Auto Ganesan, 37, who was once an accomplice of Vicky, and injured him. Later, they fled the scene.

Rajamangalam police filed a case and are searching for Ammavasai Vicky, Chinna Karuppa, Periya Karuppa, and Jeeva.
