Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao on Saturday issued strict instructions to officials to speed up pothole-filling works across the city by deploying additional teams and ensuring timely supply of asphalt.

Chairing a virtual review meeting here, Mr. Rao directed the officials to give top priority to pending potholes on arterial and sub-arterial roads. Contractors carrying out works in ward-level and on major roads were also told to expedite repair work without delay.

He noted that the asphalt mixing unit of the corporation has not been supplying asphalt mixture to five city corporations as per their requirements and directed immediate corrective action to ensure supply as per the indents. To speed up ongoing work, Mr. Rao said that in addition to the existing eight teams, five more teams have been deployed to areas requiring urgent attention.

Each team will include one roller, one tractor, and 20 personnel, and will be responsible for carrying out high-quality pothole repairs. In order to complete the task quickly, contractors have been instructed to supply at least 30 loads of asphalt mixture daily from the plant.

Given the heavy traffic on major city roads, the GBA Chief further directed that potholes on such stretches be repaired during night hours, when traffic movement is less. He added that a decision would soon be taken to supply asphalt for ward-level roads from the GBA’s own mixing plant.
