The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) Council, at the meeting on Thursday, approved a resolution to rename a stretch of the East Circular Road at Mandavelipakkam in R.A. Puram, as ‘Sirkazhi Govindarajan Salai’. The proposal, initiated by former Mylapore MLA S.Ve. Shekher, was to honour the late film playback singer, Sirkazhi S. Govindarajan. The renaming pertains to the road segment within Ward 126 of Teynampet Zone (IX), where the former MLA resides, the resolution read.
