GCC to start penalising residents without pet licence for dogs and cats

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) will start penalising residents who fail to get a pet licence before Monday in the 15 zones of the city. The civic body has announced a fine of ₹5000 for the pet owners who fail to get a licence by December 14.

Starting Monday, GCC officials are likely to visit homes to verify whether residents have obtained a licence. If they find a pet without a licence, the owner will have to pay a fine of ₹5000.

On October 8, GCC started work on microchipping of dogs, anti-rabies vaccination, and pet licensing of dogs and cats for residents of the 15 zones. After extending the deadline for issuance of pet licensing in the city to December 14, the civic body registered an increase in the number of visitors at the pet clinics/ABC centres of GCC in areas such as Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, Pulianthope, Meenambakkam, Nungambakkam, Lloyds Colony, Kannammapet, and Sholinganallur.

Special camps will be organised on Sunday for pet licence, microchipping, and vaccination at the Chennai Corporation Community Hall, Devarajan Street, Manali, Chinna Sekkadu, ward 22; Chennai Corporation Community Hall, Shanmugapuram, Surapet, in ward 32; Chennai Corporation Community Hall, Parthasarathy Nagar, Old Washermenpet, ward 48; Dunlop Ground, Kamarajapuram, Ambattur, Opposite Ambattur GCC Zonal office, ward 91; Chennai Corporation Community Hall, Kummalamman Koil Street, Kilpauk, ward 100; Councillors’ Office, Maanthoppu, Alapakkam, ward 147; Chennai Corporation Community Hall, Dr. Ambedkar Nagar, 22nd Cross Street, Velachery (West), ward 175; and Chennai Corporation Community Hall, Mylai Balaji Nagar, Madipakkam, ward 188. Pet licence issuance, microchipping, and anti-rabies vaccination will be done at the eight special camps and seven GCC pet clinics from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
