The Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Chennai, Michael Hasper, visited Auroville on Saturday to explore prospects of deepening cultural, developmental, and educational collaborations between Auroville and Germany.
A press note said, the Consul General held detailed discussions with key Auroville working groups, including the Auroville Town Development Council (ATDC), Admissions & Terminations Scrutinizing Committee (ATSC), the Working Committee, and senior staff from the Auroville Foundation.
Jayanthi S. Ravi, Secretary of the Auroville Foundation and Gujarat Additional Chief Secretary, in a virtual call with Mr. Hasper, spoke about strengthening Auroville-Germany collaboration through structured programs for volunteers, interns, researchers, and cultural exchange. Such cooperation would enhance mutual understanding, enable talent exchange, and create impactful opportunities for youths from both countries across multiple sectors in Auroville, she said.
Earlier, ATSC representative Antiim provided an overview of Sri Aurobindo’s and The Mother’s vision and mission for Auroville while Sindhuja from ATDC presented the Auroville Master Plan, explaining ongoing development, future infrastructure, residential zones, and cultural spaces, the press note said.
Dharmesh Chandra Goel and Angshuman Basu from Auroville also participated in the discussions.
The Consul General was also briefed on Auroville’s long-term layout, including plans for cultural campuses representing different cultures of Germany within the International Zone. He was presented with details about existing global collaboration models where residents prepare proposals, fundraise, and coordinate international projects—such as the French Pavilion and the Indian Pavilion, structural planning of the Residential Zone and the long-term vision to host nearly 8,000 residents within a one-kilometre stretch, accommodating youth, senior citizens, and international volunteers, the press note said.
