An environment-friendly model footpath, with plastic paver blocks and solar power component, is being developed by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation at Jubilee Hills on the corridor between Film Nagar and Jubilee Hills, under the Khairatabad Zone.
The footpath will cover the corridor between Ramanaidu Studio at Road No.79/82 junction and the Bharatiya Vidyay Bhavan Junction on Road No. 82, Jubilee Hills. Work for the footpath were launched on November 24, and is scheduled to be completed within four months, the GHMC informed through a statement. The sanctioned cost of the project is ₹1.68 crore, covering a one kilometre stretch on the left hand side and 500 meters on the right hand side of footpath development.
The project aims to enhance pedestrian safety, ensure seamless mobility, and uplift the overall urban streetscape in one of the busiest stretches of Jubilee Hills, the statement said.
A key highlight of the model footpath is the use of recyced plastic paver blocks, replacing the traditional concrete tiles. The pavers are composed 65-70% of post consumer, single use plastic waste such as multi-layered plastic, low density polyethylene, and linear low-density polyethylene. The remaining mix includes fillers and mineral additives.
The blocks will have a compressive strength of more than or equal to 35 megapascals, which is suitable for pedestrian load areas. The initiative will support environmental sustainability by diverting large volumes of plastic waste from landfills, the statement said.
The footpath will further be equipped with a 10 kilowatt peak solar grid system, which includes solar modules of 600 watts peak or above, 10 kilowatt grid-tied inverters, MS box-pipe mounting structures, automated module cleaning system and AC & DC distribution boxed with safety features, besides lightning arrester and earthing system.
Apart from providing shade, the solar canopy will also contribute clean energy to the grid, the statement said. To ensure universal accessibility, the footpath will feature tactile pavers and guidance bars enabling safe navigation for visually impaired pedestrians.
