The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will inaugurate the multi-level smart parking facility, an automated rotary-style parking tower, near KBR park on Saturday.

Developed under the Public-Private-Partnership mode and executed by Nava Nirman Associates, the project, built at a cost of ₹3 crore, is dubbed a “practical solution” to long-standing parking and congestion problems around KBR park.

With 72 car parking slots and about 20% designated area for two-wheeler parking, the vertical parking structure occupies a footprint of 405 square metres. The smart facility uses a mechanised rotary system, enabling efficient stacking and retrieval of vehicles — a space-saving measure crucial for the given setting. The vehicles’ entry and exit will be managed via an automated smart-card or RFID access and eliminates the need for manual parking attendants.

According to the GHMC, the structure will also have EV charging points, surveillance cameras, safety sensors, and an automated control system. It will be operational from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day. The parking charges are not yet disclosed.

GHMC expressed confidence that the smart parking tower will help reclaim roadside space, reduce illegal roadside parking, and restore footpaths, for pedestrians and overall traffic flow. The model, it said, could pave the way for similar smart parking solutions in other traffic-dense localities across Hyderabad.
