Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday (November 28, 2025) that the words in the Bhagavad Gita guide not only individuals but also the policies of the nation.

Speaking at the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana programme organised by Udupi Sri Krishna Mutt and Paryaya Puthige Mutt in Udupi, he said that the teachings of Lord Sri Krishna in the holy text were “practical in every age”.

The programme was a devotional gathering of thousands of participants, including students, monks, scholars, and citizens from various walks of life, who recited verses from 18 chapters of the Bhagavad Gita in unison.

Speaking of the philosopher and theologian, Madhwacharya, who hailed from Udupi, the Prime Minister said, “Throughout his life, Jagadguru Madhwacharya, who propounded the Dwaita philosophy, carried these sentiments and strengthened the unity of India,” he said.

Underscoring that behind the policies of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sarvajan Hitaya, Sarvajan Sukhaya” lies the inspiration of Sri Krishna’s ‘slokas’, Mr. Modi said this very inspiration formed the basis of schemes like Ayushman Bharat and PM Awas Yojana.

“Lord Sri Krishna imparts the knowledge of women’s safety and empowerment, and it is this wisdom that inspired the nation to take the historic decision of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam. Lord Sri Krishna teaches the principle of welfare for all, and this principle underpins India’s policies such as Vaccine Maitri, the Solar Alliance, and Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” the Prime Minister said.

Noting that the tradition of Madhwacharya gave energy to the Haridasa tradition, the Prime Minister said that great saints such as Purandaradasa and Kanakadasa brought devotion in simple, melodious, and accessible Kannada language to the masses.

“Their compositions reached every heart, even the poorest sections of society, and connected them with dharma and Sanatan values, and these compositions remain equally relevant for today’s generation.”

Senior seer of Puthige Mutt and Paryaya seer Sugunendra Tirtha spoke. Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot was present.
