Government pleader hacked to death in Tenkasi

A government pleader was hacked to death at Koolakadai Kadai bazar in Tenkasi on Wednesday.

Police said, the deceased has been identified as K. Muthukumarasamy, 48, from Urmelazhagiyan village, a government pleader of Shencottah munsif court. He maintained his office at Koolakadai bazar in Tenkasi.

On Wednesday afternoon, while Muthukumarasamy was at his office, an unidentified man attacked him with sharp weapons, hacking him before fleeing the scene. Nearby residents, who witnessed the incident, alerted the police.

Tenkasi police rushed to the scene, rescued him and sent him to the government hospital in Tenkasi, where he succumbed to his injuries within a couple of hours.

The shocking murder, which occurred in broad daylight in a busy locality with heavy public movement, created panic in the area.

After hearing about the incident, fellow lawyers staged a road roko near the Tenkasi government hospital.

Tenkasi SP S. Aravind held talks with protesting lawyers and assured them that the accused would be arrested soon. Following the assurance, the lawyers withdrew the protest.
