Grama sabha meetings were held in Salem and Namakkal districts on the occasion of Local Bodies Day on Saturday.
At the grama sabha meeting held at Thindamangalam panchayat in Omalur panchayat union in Salem district, Collector R. Brindha Devi said that the special grama sabha meetings were held at all 385 village panchayats in Salem district. The administration of the village panchayat and expenditure, audit report of the village panchayat for the previous year, measures to be taken for the installation of rainwater harvesting systems in rural areas, measures to prevent dengue, precautionary measures for the Northeast monsoon, details of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, the Swachh Bharat Mission and other important schemes of the government were discussed with the public.
Stating that steps were taken to make Thindamangalam panchayat disease-free, the Collector said that government officials from various departments also explained in detail how the government schemes being implemented through their departments could be used. Likewise, the schemes implemented by the Union and State Governments for rural development were highlighted, Ms. Brindha Devi added.
At the grama sabha meeting held at Veeranampalayam panchayat in Paramathi Panchayat Union in Namakkal district, Collector Durgamoorthi participated.
